This Privacy Policy explains how FluentClips ("FluentClips," "we," "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website and services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.

1. Information we collect

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication details needed to sign you in.
Content you create or upload. Links you submit, files you upload, the resulting video/audio clips and transcripts, your saved and known words, quiz answers, tags, and similar study data.
Usage information. Basic technical and usage data such as pages visited, actions taken, approximate time of access, and error/diagnostic logs, used to operate and improve the Service.
Messages you send us. If you contact us, we keep your message and any contact details you include so we can respond.

2. How we use information

To provide, maintain, and improve the Service (process and transcribe clips, run the dictionary and quizzes, track your progress).
To secure the Service, prevent abuse, and enforce our Terms.
To respond to your requests and communicate with you about your account.
To comply with legal obligations.

3. Service providers

We rely on third parties to run the Service. They process information only to provide services to us:

Supabase — hosting of our database, authentication, and file storage.
OpenAI — transcription, translation, and comprehension-question generation for the clips you process.
A residential proxy provider — used by our download service to retrieve videos from third-party sites you link to.
Render — application hosting.
A payment processor (e.g. Stripe), if and when paid plans launch — to process payments. We do not store full payment-card numbers.

4. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only: with the service providers above; if you choose to share a clip or list with another user; to comply with law or valid legal process; to protect the rights, safety, and property of FluentClips or others; or in connection with a business transfer (e.g. merger or acquisition), subject to this Policy.

5. Cookies and local storage

We use cookies and browser local storage that are necessary to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences (such as sort and display settings). We do not use third-party advertising trackers.

6. Data retention

We keep your account information and content for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. You can delete clips and other content at any time, and you can request deletion of your account by contacting us. We may retain limited information as required to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

7. Your choices and rights

You may access and update your account information, delete content, and request a copy or deletion of your personal information by using the Service or contacting us. Depending on where you live (for example, under the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act, the California CCPA/CPRA, or the EU/UK GDPR), you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a portable copy of your information, and to appeal a decision. We will honor these rights as required by applicable law.

8. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Third-party content and sites

The Service lets you work with content from third-party sites. Those sites have their own privacy practices and terms, and we are not responsible for them.

11. International users

We operate in the United States. If you use the Service from outside the U.S., you understand your information will be processed in the U.S. and other countries where our providers operate.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and change the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be highlighted where appropriate.
